Synergy with Meitheal Residential Summer School 2012
Blas 2012 is delighted to announce that it is continuing the synergy with Meitheal Residential Summer School 2012 for a number of co-operative projects. Under the auspices of Blas, we are delighted to announce that a Scholarship will be awarded to a 2012 Meitheal student enabling him/her to attend Blas 2013. The co-operative projects include:
- A group gig and workshop in October 2012 at Irish World Music Academy, University of Limerick
- A student will be selected as part of the Meitheal awards to spend a week on the Primary Degree Programme The BA in Irish Traditional Music & Dance in October 2012
One student will be awarded a Full Scholarship to Blas 2013. The value of the bursary (€680) covers tuition only for the 2 weeks of the programme. This includes lectures, workshops, assessment and attendance at all concerts. Travel arrangements and accommodation (if required) are the responsibility of the applicant. Details for the extra costs for the week which include accommodation & food are available on the website on the Accommodation Fees page at www.blas.ie.

Online Academy of Irish Music
The Online Academy of Irish Music is a new and unique platform for providing quality Irish musical tuition on a global scale. The teaching is transmitted directly from some of Ireland's most experienced performers and tutors to any location in the world. The OAIM scholarship will provide the nominee with six months of unlimited access to all tutorials on the OAIM website www.oaim.ie. Value: €120. This will be presented to a student at the end of Blas who shows dedication to constant improvement.

Paul Brady Blas Bursaries
Musician, singer and composer Paul Brady has made available a number of bursaries to the tune of €760, which are the cost of tuition for the 2 weeks of the programme. Details for the extra costs for the week which include accommodation & food are available on the website on the ‘Accommodation Fees’ page.
This is open for application from candidates who satisfy the following criteria:
- Applicants must be of Irish residency
- Applicants must be 16 years or over
Applications should be made in writing by Monday 10th May 2010 to The Director of the Blas International Summer School, Ernestine Healy, Irish World Academy, stating why they feel they would benefit from the school & bursary and also include a sample recording of their music and/or dance.

Martin Hayes and Donal Lunny as Artists in Residence
The Irish World Academy is delighted to announce Martin Hayes as an incoming Artist-in-Residence. Martin Hayes is regarded as one of the most extraordinary talents to emerge in the world of Irish traditional music. His unique sound, his mastery of his chose instrument, his acknowledgement of the past and his shaping of the future of the music, combine to create an astonishing and formidable artistic intelligence. He is the recipient of major national and international awards: most recently the prestigious Gradam Ceoil , Musician of the Year 2008 from the Irish language TV station TG4; previously Man of the Year from the American Irish Historical Society, Folk Instrumentalist of the Year from BBC Radio and a National Entertainment Award. The residency will commence in June 2010, to coincide with the Blas Summer School of Irish Traditional Music and Dance, where he will conduct workshops and master classes.
Donal Lunny's residency at the Irish World Academy to date has included two intensive week-long workshops with students of the Academy’s BA and MA Irish Traditional Music Performance, which led to a major concert where he was joined by these students on stage at in the Theatre 1 in the new Irish World Academy building, as part of the Blas Summer School of Irish Traditional Music and Dance, where he was also a tutor. His residency continues for the 2010/2011 academic year where he will continue to interact with students of the
performance programmes at the Academy.

Blas on RTÉ TV programme 'Nationwide'
Blas was filmed for a special feature on Nationwide - the TV magazine programme on Irish National TV service, RTÉ 1.
The footage gives a great insight into the Blas summer school experience and is essential viewing for any potential student.
